Life after Government!
Greetings Earthlings! I come in peace!
I am very busy these days, finding out what life is really like outside of the US Government! As a 30-year government employee (they want to give me my 30-year pin next week!), I feel very much like I worked in a cocoon all those years. As an astronaut, everything was “taken care of” for the most part. My schedule was essentially developed for me, my computer was provided and any worries or problems taken care of by a crack IT staff and life was pretty controlled.
Not so much in retirement! I have been working incredibly hard. Setting up this web site, and now learning to operate it are key items on my current “job jar” list! I am also diligently plugging away at my book. Many of you know the working title is “Takin’ Up Space!” A Memoir of sorts, it covers my astronaut life, from the time of my first application, through selection, training and finally, flying in space (twice!). It should be a fun read, full of interesting stories and lots of emotion, but not too technical. I anticipate that folks of all ages (maybe from 5th graders through adults) will enjoy it immensely! We’ll see if that comes to fruition.
I have been travelling frequently for speaking engagements and some educational consulting which I hope will continue. As I learn to “market myself,” let me know via this website or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any ideas or know of anyone seeking an engaging (some might say “out of this world!”) keynote speaker!
Time to get back to work. Let me know that you are out there!
